Jan Richardson

Jan Richardson - artistJan Richardson began working in fine craft in 1960. She moved to St. Petersburg in 2014 after nearly 40 years of creating gorgeous stoneware Appalachian houses as Windy Meadows Pottery. She now works out of the Morean Center for Clay in the historic Seaboard Train Station.

In her small studio plastered with fragments of photos and drawings for inspiration, Jan creates another world. Jan’s creative process is instinctual. She hand-builds ceramic pieces, both functional and sculptural, from clay slabs. Her highly stylized decoration is inspired by ancient civilizations all over the globe. Through her work, Jan seeks to find a unifying genius underlying human communication.

Her highly praised Ancient Intergalactic series has been exhibited at the Florida CraftArt gallery, Lesley Curran’s ARTicles, the Dunedin Fine Arts Center and other local galleries.
