Upcoming Exhibit with David McCauley at Creative Grape – Opening on January 19

Megan Garrison I am a painter, drawer, and dancer who grew up in New Orleans, LA. I have lived and traveled across the US and Europe. I pull inspiration from my upbringing in New Orleans and my travels. I have settled in Saint Petersburg, FL in Historic Kenwood, where I have been for 10 years and happy to call it home. From a very early age, art was a part of my life. My mother is a talented seamstress and artist, and my father is a photographer. Our house was filled with art from local artists and my dad’s photography. My parents made a huge impact on my love for art growing up and always embraced my decision to pursue it.

My knowledge of art began at Loyola University, where I attended art camps as a child, and later went to college to learn the fundamentals of oil painting, and figure drawing. My education continued at Louisiana State University where I studied fashion and continued to hone my skills in figure drawing. It was through this education, and these experiences that I started developing my personal esthetic.

My current work consists of oil paintings, and figure drawings in black graphite and color charcoal. My paintings are abstract landscapes that play with mind-bending light sources. The use of an oil, varnish and turpenoid mixture helps make the paint malleable to blend directly on the canvas. I also experiment mixing graphite and acrylic paint to push the boundaries of 2 dimensional figures.

I continue to let my artwork be influenced by the surrounding culture, my family, and the city I now call home.
